When it comes to Internet marketing, the person who gets the most clicks wins.

The more people you can tempt to click on your ad, sign up for your program, or subscribe to your newsletter, the more money you'll make.

Why they click

A person is only going to click on your ad, sign up for your program, or subscribe to your newsletter if there's a reason to do so. That reason is some positive outcome the clicker hopes to gain.

Your job, as the advertiser, is to make it blatantly obvious what that reason is.

A failure to make it blatantly obvious will render every tip, trick and technique that follows completely useless. As with everything else in life, you have to get the basics right first.

This article assumes you already have the basics right. It assumes your ad is already generating clicks, sign ups, or subscriptions. And that you want to know how to increase the percentage of people who respond.

The five-pronged approach

There are five things you can do to improve the number of clicks, sign ups or subscriptions you're getting. They are...

• Get to the point
• Eliminate oblique references
• Ask for the action you want
• Invoke scarcity
• Reinforce the benefit

Get to the point

Your prospect will only act when he or she believes it's in his or her best interests to do so.

Your ad has to make it blatantly obvious why it's in your prospects best interests. And it must do so as soon as humanly possible.

There's a very good chance your ad doesn't do this as soon as humanly possible. There's a very good chance your ad waffles along for several paragraphs before, finally, mercifully, wonderfully — it gets to the point.

And by then, it's too late. Your prospect has fallen asleep on his or her keyboard, accidentally hit the enter key, and surfed off to some other site.

Get rid of all the waffle, and get to the point immediately. And by immediately, I mean in the headline at the top of the page.

Eliminate oblique references

Eliminate oblique references? Huh?

What I'm really saying here, is be direct.

Don't say “eliminate oblique references”. Say “be direct”. Say what you mean in the most economic way possible.

Some of you may well rebel at this command. You've been taught to be polite, and using blunt language goes against the grain.

Force yourself to do it. Become an expert at using short words and sentences. Forget about fancy elements of style. Be direct!

This will help you get to the point fast, reinforcing the first of the five prongs.

Ask for the action you want

Sounds simple, right? You want somebody to click on your ad, sign up, or subscribe. Naturally you're going to ask them to do so!

Some of you will specifically ask the prospect to act. Some of you will waffle around the point, trying to be as polite as possible.

If you're already asking for the action you want, what exactly are you saying? Are you telling the prospect exactly what you want him or her to do? Are you spelling it out in simple steps, and being as direct as possible?

You're not? Then you have a job to do my friend!

If you're being super-polite, then you've been brought up well. Call your parents, and thank them for a job well done.

Then realize that being polite in advertising almost never works (there are a few exceptions). What works is getting to the point, and bluntly telling the prospect what he or she has to do.

You are literally giving your prospect an order.

Do tell the prospect to “Fill out the form and click the Submit button now”.

Don't ask the prospect if he or she would like to find out more, and feels the winds of fate are blowing in an appropriate direction, perhaps he or she could see his or her way to find the time to perhaps, all being well, complete the following form”.

Invoke scarcity

Human beings have a curious tendency to find something more desirable if it's rare.

You can take advantage of this in your advertising, by artificially limiting the supply of the thing you're offering.

When you limit the supply of something, anyone who wants that thing is under increased pressure to act. This helps overcome another human tendency to put things off.

Here are some examples of how to invoke scarcity...

A person offering a special discount places a time-limit on the offer.

A person seeking subscribers to a newsletter gives away a free gift to the first 50 subscribers only, and displays a countdown right there next to the subscribe form.

Reinforce the benefit

This final prong is about giving away a free gift to increase response. Yet it's more than merely finding any old thing to give away.

Your free gift should reinforce the benefit of the thing you're selling.

By choosing a free gift that reinforces the major benefit of your offer, you can be sure you're increasing the value of the overall package.

If you choose a free gift unrelated to your main offer, you can't be sure the prospect will find it valuable. For example, a buyer of tofu is less likely to find a free donut as motivating as would a person who regularly buys donuts.

If you choose a free gift unrelated to your main offer, you lose a valuable chance to restate your main benefit. That's because the section where you hype your free gift, is going to have to focus on the unrelated benefits of the giveaway.

Your prospect gets excited about the benefit he or she hopes to get as a result of taking your offer. By selecting a free gift that reinforces this benefit, you get another bite at the cherry. This improves your chance of getting the prospect excited enough to overcome his or her natural lethergy.

And of course, if your prospect has read far enough to get to the point where you're talking about a free gift, you can be sure he or she is interested in your main benefit. Why offer some unrelated randomly chosen freebie the prospect may not even be interested in?

Next go to the start tab and remove any program except your antivirus software and any other program which you must have run when windows starts. Step number 3, and I do this almost on a daily basis is to clean up your Internet cache. Follow these steps:

I would recommend that you also set Internet history to a maximum of 2 days. Next step is to delete your temporary Internet files including offline content. Last but not least is to delete cookies. These steps are the basics you can take which will speed up your Internet connection immediately. I would also recommend doing a virus check on your computer on a weekly basis. If you don't have anti virus software, get it! You'll be happy you did. Just one virus can wreak havoc on your computer! Make sure you test your connection speed whether its broadband or dial-up, before and after you make these simple changes so you can compare if the corrections you have taken have worked.

VoIP security

VoIP security has been called in question recently, though there is little evidence to indicate that VoIP security is any less than conventional telephony systems.

VoIP voice data is transmitted via a packet-switched data network using IP. VoIP systems can carry a significant higher number of calls, and very much faster, than traditional PSTN networks due to compression of the voice packets, modern broadband technology and a number of other gateway developments which have reduced the previous packet delivery problems to an extent that the protocol is now a viable mainstream telephony solution to most business needs.

VoIP security should therefore be shown to be at least as effective as that of traditional telephone systems.

There is actually very little difference between VoIP security and that required for any other type of data transmission system. Look on it the same as you do your email system. The same as your office LAN if you have one. You probably have a system in operation whereby only authorized personnel can use certain aspects of the network. VoIP security can, and do, use the same techniques.

However, having said that, let’s have a look at potential weak points in VoIP security that budding hackers may see as good points of attack.

IP PBX CALL MANAGEMENT BOXES

PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, and is piece of software running on a server. It’s function is to deal with all the switches and connections involved in the telephone system. These can be attacked by hackers or viruses which could compromise sensitive data. VoIP security systems are designed with this risk in mind.

PBX equipment should be placed behind firewalls, locked down and regularly monitored for unwarranted intrusions using intrusion-detection software. It is also possible to put the server in a different domain from the rest of the system, making it much more difficult for intruders to reach. PBX security is a basic aspect of VoIP security systems

GATEWAYS AND DATA PACKETS

The gateway’s job is to convert voice to data packets, transmit them then receive and convert the packets back into voice. These are a potential VoIP security risk in that thy can be hacked into unless there is an access-control system in place to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the system. VoIP calls should only be permitted to specific people, and most good VoIP security systems allow only authorized user to operate VoIP systems under password control.

The data packets themselves can be hacked into using data-sniffing techniques. This can be a serious VoIP security risk and packet sniffers, as they are often called, capture binary data passing through your network and can reroute it to a computer on another network for decoding into a readable form. In order to do this, the ‘sniffers’ has to be on the same network wire as the packet is using to reach its destination. The problem in installing an effective VoIP security system is that there is usually a lot of information passing at any one time, and the hacker has a higher probability of getting useful information than from a conventional telephone system.

Encrypting VoIP traffic and routing it through a virtual private network would reduce the VoIP security risk, and most corporate systems have multiple encryption layers for external messages. Internal security could be improved by running internal VoIP messages through this corporate network. Small businesses should seek the advice of their supplier, or of a security expert if they feel that they may be subject to such attacks.

However, VoIP security advisors can point small to medium companies in the right direction. Corporate VoIP security is generally not so much problem in that it is normally contracted out to expert advisers.

In the final analysis, however, there are no real differences between VoIP security and the normal security concerns associated with any data network service, such as normal office internet and email LANs. The security firewalls and restricted access to use, common on these systems, should suffice to deal with VoIP security

A lot of people these days are interested in getting their own place on the World Wide Web. Whether it’s a personal site like a blog, or a business site, they all need to have a decent plan before they get started.

A few years ago I started designing and creating websites myself. I started just to show off to others, but I noticed it wasn't as easy I thought it was. I mean, it is easy to get a site online; you just buy a template, pay a coder, and pay some one to insert content and advertise for you then you're done. But if you want to do things yourself, that's where it gets tricky.

After a few sites, I managed to find a certain pattern in the process of creating and managing my websites.

1. I always start with an idea for subject and content. Believe me - never create a website about something you hate and know nothing about. Instead create a website about something you know a lot about and like to tell other people about. What also works is writing about a subject you would like to know more on, after doing your own research. Newbie’s can explain information to other newbie’s easier then pros explaining information to newbie’s.

2. Then I think of a design to go with it, to reflect its idea. Like if your subject is Boats, then don't go with a flaming red design. Sure it could do it, but I would prefer for a blue, water-like design to reflect its subject.

3. If the design is done, you need to get it coded. Some create their designs while they code, but I prefer to use a graphical program to first create the whole design, just the way I want it to be. Then I slice it all (contact me if you want to read an article about that) and save it for the web. I usually have a small group of coders I trust to code my designs and they send it back to me when it's coded.

4. Well then everything is almost done you would think. You got a design coded and everything. But the answer is NO. You are just starting. Sure you have a site and all, but you do not have hosting or a domain name. In order to get your site up and running, you will need something called hosting. It's like when you buy a house it needs to be on ground. Well the hosting is the ground here, and your website is the house. Without hosting, your site is almost useless. These days you can choose between free hosts, which in my opinion aren't great, but if you want to start and try out, I'd suggest you work with a free host first. And then there is paid hosting, you pay for a certain amount of server space and bandwidth and sometimes extra features.

5. Now if you have chosen to go for a free host, then please skip this step, because you probably won't be able to use it. A domain is needed for people to find your website. For example if you website is called BoatFish, then you could make the domain www.boatfish.com or www.boatfish.net, whatever you choose for. There are quite a large number of extensions you can go for. But I always suggest you go for a .com domain name. People tend to look for them more often than for a .net or any other extension.

6. the most important part of your website is your content. People stay or come back to your website because you have good content, or leave if you don’t. So please write up some good content for your site before launching it; this can cost you a lot of visitors. I can't show you how to submit content, or what kind of content you should be submitting, this is something you should look into yourself.

7. Now you got everything you need to get your site online. And still you are not done at all. You can site around and wait for people to come to your website, but not many will. That's why advertising will be your best bet to go for. You can link exchange and/or go for SEO. Search Engine Optimization is a great way to get many hits towards your website. I do not have any websites that haven't been optimized for search engines, because I know seo'ing brings in many visitors, and customers. SEO means Search Engine Optimization, which means that it will try to rank you as high as possible at search engines. If some one searches for a keyword regarding your website they will see your site and click on it. This is seriously a great way to get many, many visitors.
